Step 1: The difference between your OpenAI API Key and paid subscription to ChatGPT.
It's important to remember that your OpenAI API Key is different to and separate from your paid subscription to ChatGPT. The purpose of it is to allow third party apps like Productised to use OpenAI's AI engine which is often referred to as the GPT language model.
Step 2: Begin the setup process.
Go to platform.openai.com and create an account. Then go to platform.openai.com/settings and it should take you to the 'project settings' page.
Step 3: Name the project.
The naming convention is entirely up to you, it may just be that the project uses your company name and that's fine.
Step 4: Sort your payment method
A payment method is needed so that OpenAI can charge you for the API credits you use in Productised, or any other third party platform you would like to use that takes advantage of their API. So go to Billing > Payment Methods and add your credit card as the payment method. Once you add your card you will be prompted to load $10 on.
Step 5: Manage your credit balance
For credit balance management, navigate to Billing > The Overview Section. Here you have the option to add additional funds to your credit balance. If you really want to have the most control over your usage it's possible to regularly check up on it from in here, and progressively add more, but we recommend you use the auto-recharge option.
How this works is super simple. Essentially it creates a top-up threshold, when your balance reaches the amount, say $100 - your account is automatically topped up with the amount specified by you.
Step 6: Create your discrete API key
Now you have your project set up in OpenAI playground & your billing and auto-recharge is set up. The final step on the OpenAI side of things is to get your OpenAI API key from Playground and transfer it into your Productised Account.
Go to 'API Keys' in the Playground sidebar and select 'Create new secret key.' Now you will need to name your key and select the project you created earlier for the key to be applied to. Finally select 'create secret key.'
Step 7: Import the key to Productised
Now you need to copy the key you've just created and paste it straight into Productised as once you select 'copy' in OpenAI Playground the key will be encrypted and you'll no longer be able to see it. With the key freshly copied navigate back to Productised.
Step 8: Apply your key inside Productised
Go to Productised Settings, select 'API Key' and paste the key in, select 'confirm' and you're good to go!
